What is GlobalLogic Version 1.0SM?
GlobalLogic Version 1.0SM provides product conceptualization and software development services. It is aimed at early-stage and established technology companies that want to incubate an idea into a market-ready product. Version 1.0 enables these companies to design, build and launch software products without any internal engineering staff. The service also includes a dedicated Executive Advisor and access to an ecosystem of technology partners, go-to-market partners and investors who can help execute an accelerated and successful launch.
Who is a typical Version 1.0 customer?
Typical clients range from recently funded / early-stage companies to established companies that are looking to a) launch a brand new product, b) outsource the end-to-end engineering for Version 1.0, and c) reduce the technology-related risk.
Why the name "Version 1.0"?
Version 1.0 implies a new product introduction or the first version of a product. Some of the key attributes implied in Version 1.0 include innovation, design, speed, time-to-market, quality, dedication, team work and collaboration.
Why use GlobalLogic Version 1.0SM instead of building up my own product team?
Version 1.0 delivers many advantages to our clients, including:

  • GlobalLogic takes ownership of the complete product engineering process, platform and technology architecture. This enables our client to focus on business development, customer acquisition, go-to-market challenges, etc.

  • We bring a very mature development infrastructure, as well as Agile methodologies geared toward product launches.

  • Clients are able to leverage GlobalLogic's various Excellence Centers, technology experience, tools and resources.

  • We provide a level of continuous visibility and iterative control that equals or surpasses that of managing an in-house team.

  • We introduce clients to an ecosystem of technology partners, go-to-market partners, Executive Advisors and investors who can help accelerate and execute a successful launch.
How do I sign up / qualify to be a Version 1.0 client?
To ensure mutual success, we carefully select the companies we work with whom we work in the Version 1.0 group. Companies typically fall in two broad categories: those who have funded business plans (pre-qualified) and those who are “bootstrapping” their development.

For a company with a funded business plan (pre-qualified), we first briefly assess the company’s technology / partnership needs. Then, based on a mutual desire to move forward, we engage with the company through the engagement model outlined below. If you are interested in participating in this service, please contact version1.0@globallogic.com.

For a company without a funded business plan, GlobalLogic performs a fairly detailed evaluation of the company, which includes reviews by seasoned professionals and potential investors. This mutual fit analysis, which can last from a few days to a few weeks, parallels a typical high-level hiring / due diligence process. What does it mean to be "fabless"?
The term “fables” comes from the electronics industry, which leverages either in-house or third party fabrication facilities to manufacture hardware products. By choosing to outsource product development – or go “fabless” – an electronics company could avoid high investment costs and instead focus on the design and sale of its products. Similarly, by leveraging GlobalLogic’s “software manufacturing” core competencies, a Version 1.0 client can focus on the other activities required to make a product launch successful.
Will I lose control of my idea if I turn over the engineering process?
On the contrary, Version 1.0 processes and tools are designed to provide client partners with continuous visibility and iterative control. Short design and conceptualization cycles, short development and release cycles, and ongoing reviews and communication ensures that partners have both the right level of control and the opportunity to correct or stay the course for the product launch. We aim for a collaborative and participatory approach to product development, and our distributed Agile-based Velocity platform facilitates and encourages this approach.
Where will my engineering team be located?
The Version 1.0 service is headed by GlobalLogic’s head of New Venture Services, Sachin Saxena, an industry veteran based in San Francisco, California. Each individual engineering team will be built using a combination of onshore and offshore expertise, depending on a client partner’s needs and priorities.
How long does it take / how much will it cost to build my product? What is the engagement model?
The Version 1.0 engagement model involves six distinct development phases:

  • Business Plan and Vision
  • Storyboard
  • Visualization
  • Architect & Release Plan
  • Alpha & Beta Release
  • Version 1.0 Release
Clients determine the time-to-market (go-live) and cost (resources). During consultation, these two variables are used to help determine the scope and features of the project. We work collaboratively with the partner to determine the intermediate milestones required to meet a realistic product launch date.
Who will be my Executive Advisor, and what will he / she do?
An Executive Advisor (EA) is a senior-level business professional whose role is to provide Version 1.0 partners with advice and guidance. EAs are experts in either an industry, domain, geography or in launching new ventures. Appointed during the initial evaluation process, the EA acts as a sounding board on issues identified by the partner.

A typical engagement would include meeting every other week to discuss any issues or events that are important to the partner. However, the EA should not be regarded as a subject matter expert who is working to resolve the partner’s engineering issue. Because EAs are part of the GlobalLogic senior management team or the GlobalLogic ecosystem, they are not involved in any product delivery related issues.
How can GlobalLogic help if I am still trying to secure funding?
This question has a three components:
  1. If a technology company is planning to “bootstrap” its development, GlobalLogic performs a fairly detailed evaluation of the company, which includes reviews by seasoned professionals and potential investors. This mutual fit analysis, which can last from a few days to a few weeks, parallels a typical high-level hiring / due diligence process.  If you are interested in participating in this service, please fill out the following information form or email it to the Version 1.0 team at version1.0@globallogic.com.

  2. GlobalLogic understands that many early-stage start-ups need to build a prototype or initial product on a limited budget in order to secure further funding. Our Version 1.0 service enables these companies to efficiently use their early stage capital by deploying a combination of onshore and offshore resources, providing access to an Agile-based award-winning software development infrastructure, etc,.  If you are interested in participating in this service, please fill out the information form.

  3. By leveraging the Version 1.0 service, start-ups gain an opportunity to expose their ideas to GlobalLogic’s ecosystem of partners and investors. However, please note that an investor’s decision to invest in your company is independent of the Version 1.0 service and will be secured solely based on the merit of your business plan and team.
Can GlobalLogic introduce me to its Venture Capitalists?
One of the goals of the GlobalLogic Version 1.0SM service is to provide innovators with the means to create an early prototype / POC so that investors have a tangible product upon which to make their investment decisions.

GlobalLogic also provides its Version 1.0 client partners with an ecosystem of industry resources (including technology alliances) and access to Angel and Venture Capitalists. By leveraging the Version 1.0 service, start-ups gain an opportunity to expose their ideas to GlobalLogic’s ecosystem of partners and investors. However, please note that an investor’s decision to invest in your company is independent of the Version 1.0 service and can be secured solely based on the merit of your business plan and team.
Will GlobalLogic fund Version 1.0 companies? Does this service compete with Venture Capitalist Services?
No, we don’t fund or finance Version 1.0 companies. There are three separate roles in the creation of a company that should not be intermingled or confused. These roles are:

  • The entrepreneur / business owner, who is working on the product’s idea, strategy, customers and markets
  • The engineering team, which is provided by GlobalLogic
  • The investors, who bring “smart money” to the table
Is this a new initiative? What is GlobalLogic's experience in building Version 1.0 products?

During the past five years, GlobalLogic has partnered with more then 150 technology companies to help them launch nearly 1,000 software products in the domains of Mobile, Telecomm, Web2,0, SaaS, Open Source and Business Intelligence, to name a few. During the course of this exciting journey, we have learned much about what it takes to rapidly deliver great software to market. We understand how to empower people with an Agile product development method & platform. These are just some of the important capabilities we have identified and cultivated.
