With recession being an opportunity to invest for big MNCs, LSI Technologies, a provider of innovative silicon, systems and software technologies has acquired the team of Navis Networking based at Pune.
With the R&D unit based out of Mountain View, California shutting down, LSI has acquired the manpower of the captive R&D centre in India.
Talking to CXOtoday, Vic Mahadevan, vice-president marketing & product management said, The Pune unit mainly focuses on networking and security solutions for leading networking companies like Nokia and Ericsson and so acquired the manpower assets of Navis in India.
However, LSI has not acquired the company and only the team of about 35 employees based in Pune.
The company with principal offices in Pune, develops multimedia system-on-chip technology and related software for consumer electronics products.
According to Zinnov Management Consulting the growth strategy for big MNCs in India has been to acquire captive units with the recession sinking deeper.
As many as 15 captive R&D units have been acquired by MNCs in 2009 including Symphony, Global Logic, HCL Technologies, Infosys, MindTree, L&T Infotech, Persistant among others.
So post acquisition, the R&D centre will service the acquirer for a period and will get all the assured business.
