Major bank invests in cloud platform

NatWest has made a £50.4m equity investment into the Vodeno Cloud Platform.

This firm provides embedded finance solutions such as payments, deposits, point-of-sale credit and seller cash advances – ‘combining innovative technology with a European banking license and regulatory and compliance expertise from seasoned bankers.’

Japan and the UK to collaborate

NTT DoCoMo and Vodafone are set to drive Open RAN system integration and efficiency.

These UK and Japanese operators have agreed to cooperate to bring the benefits of open radio access networks to a wider operator and supplier community, exchanging expertise and technologies.

This partnership will reportedly encourage greater interoperability between different suppliers and give customers seamless service no matter where they are.

UK battery industry gets a boost

The UK’s world-leading battery manufacturing industries are to be boosted thanks to a huge £211 million in government funding.

This will reportedly help the sector deliver 100,000 jobs in battery gigafactories and also support the scale-up of the technology – increasing the sustainable growth of the economy.

Do big tech firms bring threats?

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has called on UK Finance organisations to air their opinions on the benefits and potential threats that big tech firms bring to the sector – including the likes of Apple and Google.

The rapid digitisation of the financial services sector has seen these tech giants develop and offer financial services – so, although the FCA is not proposing specific regulation, they want to start discussion to inform the regulatory approach.

More Starlink updates

Last week we spoke about the Starlink Aviation launch, due in the next couple of years.

Now, it’s been announced that Starlink will be available for moving vehicles come this December – boasting enhanced GPS capabilities and consistent connectivity on the go.

This new service differs from its stationary counterpart, with the price increasing by almost $2,000!
