Responsible for leading and coordinating the development and release of automotive hardware components from concept through production. This role bridges engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality to ensure timely delivery of parts within budget and according to customer and regulatory requirements. The HPM oversees the Bill of Materials (BOM), manages part release processes, and ensures projects are executed efficiently across cross-functional teams.
1. Project Management
Develop and manage detailed project plans including timing, milestones, and deliverables for hardware development.
Track project progress against agreed timelines, budgets, and resource plans.
Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies to avoid delays or budget overruns.
Coordinate project reviews and provide status updates to senior management and stakeholders.
2. BOM (Bill of Materials) Management
Maintain and manage the accuracy of the BOM throughout the product lifecycle.
Ensure proper documentation and version control of all part numbers and engineering changes.
Collaborate with design and release engineers to update BOM as new components are released or revised.
3. Part Release
Drive the part release process through internal systems and ensure timely approvals.
Coordinate with engineering, purchasing, and suppliers to ensure parts meet design and regulatory standards.
Ensure that released parts are correctly documented and available for prototype and production builds.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with engineering, supply chain, quality, manufacturing, and program teams to align on hardware development goals.
Support sourcing and supplier selection activities for hardware components.
Facilitate communication between all teams involved in hardware development to avoid misalignment and rework.
5. Budget and Resource Management
Monitor project budgets and ensure spending aligns with financial targets.
Plan and allocate resources effectively, identifying gaps and proposing solutions.
Work with department leads to secure appropriate staffing and equipment for the project.
6. Compliance & Standards
Ensure all hardware components comply with automotive industry standards (e.g., ISO, IATF) and OEM-specific requirements.
Support DFMEA, DVP&R, and other validation/testing activities.
