Description

We are looking for a Product Owner with a strong background in software engineering to drive product development for high-precision, laser-based medical devices. You’ll act as the bridge between system requirements and implementation – owning product features from concept to deployment – ensuring close alignment with development and testing teams.
We are looking for someone on-site in Erlangen or someone who will be able to travel there on daily basis.

This is a key role in an international team delivering next-generation medical solutions based on embedded systems. The ideal candidate has previous hands-on experience in software development (any language), with C/C++ as a strong plus, and deep understanding of embedded technologies and regulatory environments (IEC 62304, etc.).

About the Client
Our client is a global leader in eye care, dedicated to improving lives by enhancing sight. With a strong portfolio of innovative products—including contact lenses, eye care solutions, and surgical instruments for cataract and retina procedures — they serve customers in over 140 countries. By advancing cutting-edge technologies and solutions, they continue to shape the future of eye health worldwide.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner or Requirements Engineer in embedded systems projects.
  • Previous experience in software development (any language); C/C++ knowledge is a strong advantage.
  • Strong understanding of real-time systems, hardware/software interfacing, and system-level architecture.
  • Prior experience in the medical device industry, especially laser-based technologies or actuators/sensors.
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools (e.g., Polarion, DOORS) and traceability frameworks.
  • Knowledge of safety standards (e.g., IEC 62304) and risk assessment practices.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Fluent German is mandatory (all technical documentation and specifications are in German).

Job responsibilities

  • Own the product backlog and define clear, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Analyze complex system requirements (in German) and translate them into technical specifications for development and QA teams.
  • Work closely with system architects, developers, and testers to ensure high-quality and timely product delivery.
  • Ensure traceability of requirements from definition through implementation and validation.
  • Lead sprint planning, backlog grooming, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Support integration testing involving real-time embedded hardware/software interaction.
  • Maintain high standards in documentation to support audits and regulatory approvals.
