You will be working for one of the largest automotive services businesses in the UK and
Europe, providing end-to-end solutions across vehicle remarketing, fleet management, financial
services and dealer software. Our Data Solutions team sits at the heart of this – building the
intelligence layer that powers decisions across our business and for our OEM and fleet clients.
The Role
This is a hands-on Product Designer role sitting within the Decision Engine squad – a cross-
functional team building a recommendation and workflow product for major clients. You will own both research and design for the product, working closely with the Senior Product Manager and engineering team from discovery through to delivery.
This is not a role that separates research from design. We are looking for someone who can talk to
users in the morning, synthesise what they heard, and be sketching solutions in the afternoon.
The product we are building is used daily by remarketing managers under real time pressure –
the quality of the experience directly determines whether they trust it, adopt it, and act on it.
V1 of the Decision Engine taught us that expectation gaps and workflow mismatches cost
adoption. V2 is being built differently – with design and research embedded from the start, not
bolted on at the end. This role is the embodiment of that commitment.
You will be embedded in the Decision Engine squad alongside a Senior Product Manager,
engineers, and a data science team. The squad works in a fast-moving, delivery-oriented way –
we prototype with real users, iterate quickly, and ship things that work.
The broader Data Solutions function is approximately 20 people, with strong executive backing
and a clear commercial mandate. You will have direct access to client users across multiple
European markets, which is an unusual and genuinely valuable research environment for a
product designer.
We are currently working with 40% of a shared UX resource. This role is the step change –
dedicated design and research ownership from day one.
Essential
· Proven product design experience across both research and interaction design – you are
equally comfortable planning a discovery session and shipping polished UI
· Experience designing B2B workflow tools or data-heavy decision-support products – you
understand the specific challenges of products used by professionals under time pressure
· Data visualisation design – the Decision Engine is a data product; making complex, multi-
variable information scannable and immediately actionable is a core design challenge, not a
nice-to-have
· Visual hierarchy in data-dense interfaces, trust calibration and explainability design –
users need to know what to look at, what to act on, and why the product is making a given
recommendation; designing for that is fundamental to adoption
· Comfortable operating in an agile squad – research and design outputs feed directly into
sprint cycles, not separate workstreams
· Strong synthesis and communication skills – you can translate complex user findings into
clear, actionable product direction
· Able to work in ambiguity – this is a new product in a new architecture; you will help
define the problem as much as solve it
Highly desirable
· Experience in automotive, logistics, fleet or any domain involving high-volume asset
management or operational decision-making
· Familiarity with designing for recommendation or AI-driven products – understanding
how to build user trust in algorithmic outputs is directly relevant
· Experience with design systems at scale
· AI fluency – comfortable using generative design tools (vO, Figma Make) and AI-assisted
research and prototyping workflows to move faster and test more
· Microcopy and content design – an instinct for the words inside the product, not just the
layout around them
What You Will Work On
User research
Planning and running discovery sessions with remarketing managers across European
markets. Understanding the Monday morning reality – how they currently assess, price and act
on hundreds of vehicles – and translating that into validated product requirements. This is B2B
research with real users under real pressure, not survey work.
Usability testing
Designing and executing usability tests on prototypes throughout the build cycle. Feeding
findings directly into sprint planning and backlog prioritisation. Ensuring the squad is always
building on evidence, not assumption.
Interaction and workflow design
Designing the end-to-end workflow experience for the Decision Engine – from how
recommendations are surfaced, to how managers investigate, decide and act. The core
challenge is making a complex, data-heavy product feel fast, clear and trustworthy in daily use.
Prototyping
Building prototypes at varying fidelity – from quick concept sketches to high-fidelity interactive
prototypes – to test ideas with users before engineering picks them up. Our team prototype
rapidly; you will be a natural part of that rhythm.
Developer-ready handoff
Producing design outputs that engineering can build from without ambiguity – annotated specs,
component documentation, and clear interaction notes. You take shared responsibility for what
gets built, not just what gets designed.
Design system and standards
Contributing to and maintaining the design system for the Decision Engine, ensuring consistency
across components, interactions and visual language as the product grows.
Stakeholder communication
Presenting research findings and design decisions clearly to the product team, and where
relevant to stakeholders. You can articulate the why behind design choices, not just
the what.
