The core OS is based on Linux, then extended with several functional layers in C++/Rust, then exposing a JS-ready layer for app development. The user-facing apps are built in JavaScript (React Native).The edge between the native OS and the JS applications is based on the HermesJS engine – an engine that improves the start-up time and reduces memory footprint thanks to ahead-of-time static optimizations and translation of JS code to bytecode.

Requirements

A stellar engineer with a rare combination of theory and practice:

Languages & Frameworks

• Expert-level JavaScript (React Native preferred)
• Solid experience in C/C++ (or C++/Rust mix) on mobile or embedded platforms

Compiler & VM Expertise

• Deep, practical understanding of compilers, bytecode generation, and virtual machines
• Experience with ahead‑of‑time compilation, JIT, and static optimization
• Hands-on with HermesJS or similar engines (JavaScriptCore, V8, etc.)

Toolchain Integration

• Familiarity with LLVM and low‑level code translation
• Knowledge of React Native precompilation workflows (bytecode generation, HermesJS, V8)

Proven Track Record

• A degree or comparable experience in compiler/VM development
• Contributions to open source projects or relevant technical publications
• Real‑world experience engineering performance‑critical systems

Job responsibilities

• Optimizing how React Native apps are transformed into native processor code
• Enhancing compilation performance, reducing launch times, and improving runtime efficiency
• Deep integration with HermesJS and/or other JS engines (e.g., JavaScriptCore, V8)
• Contributing to low‑level toolchains: from JS → bytecode → LLVM → native
• Analyze and optimize compilation pipelines for React Native
• Implement and refine Hermes-based (or similar) transformation from JS to native code
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance system‑wide performance
• Contribute to toolchain documentation, tests, and best practices
