Description

This position is part of the Telecom Core Networks & Advanced Analytics Program, which builds intelligent tools to enhance Network Operations and Support. The SME will act as the bridge between Data Science teams (who design predictive models, anomaly detection, and automation frameworks) and Engineering teams (who develop and deploy operational tools). By combining deep telecom signaling expertise across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G protocols with a strong grasp of 3GPP specifications, the SME ensures that tools are grounded in standardized network behavior, enabling faster troubleshooting, smarter automation, and improved customer experience.

The project’s mission is to:

Integrate telecom domain knowledge into data-driven tools for proactive monitoring and RCA.

Support engineering teams in designing scalable solutions aligned with signaling complexities.

Enable operations teams to leverage advanced analytics for efficiency and reliability.

Requirements

Must-Have

Strong knowledge of MAP (SS7) and Diameter protocols

Clear understanding of call flows, request/answer mechanisms, timers, errors, and result codes

Hands-on experience with PCAP analysis (Wireshark/tshark), log and trace analysis

Solid understanding of roaming scenarios across 2G/3G/4G/5G environments

Working knowledge of protocols across generations:

2G/3G: MAP, CAMEL, CAP, SS7 signaling

4G: Diameter (Gy, Gx, S6a, Sh), GTP-C/U, SIP (IMS/VoLTE)

5G: HTTP/2-based service-based interfaces (N11, N12, N13, N22), NAS signaling, SCTP

Strong understanding of 3GPP specifications governing signaling, roaming, and core network functions

Nice-to-Have

Knowledge of additional protocols: RTP, SIP extensions, SCTP

Exposure to HLR/HSS/UDM, PCRF/PCF, OCS/charging systems

Experience in telecom operations, NOC, or escalation teams

Familiarity with 4G/5G core architecture (AMF, SMF, UPF, PCF, NRF, UDM)

Job responsibilities

Act as SME for telecom signaling protocols across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G

Explain and validate end-to-end call flows for voice, SMS, data, IMS/VoLTE, and roaming scenarios

Troubleshoot and analyze PCAPs, traces, and logs to identify failures (call setup, authentication, charging, roaming attach/data)

Perform RCA for complex signaling problems and correlate with KPIs, logs, alarms, and customer issues

Collaborate with Data Science teams to embed telecom domain logic into predictive models and anomaly detection frameworks

Partner with Engineering teams to design and validate tools for network monitoring, troubleshooting, and automation

Ensure compliance with 3GPP specifications when analyzing signaling behavior and designing solutions

Understand roaming call flows across home/visited networks and international signaling paths; identify failures due to latency, timeouts, or misconfigurations

Coordinate with roaming partners, vendors, and internal teams (NOC, engineering, architecture)

Translate technical findings into business-impact explanations for stakeholders

Support incident reviews, audits, and customer escalations

Contribute to documentation, SOPs, and knowledge base
