Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Developer to join our team on a contract basis (Inside IR35)

You will combine your expert-level coding skills in Java and Kotlin with a strong team leadership background, acting as a key technical mentor and providing architectural governance to established offshore groups.

Requirements

Technical Expertise: Expert-level proficiency in Java and Kotlin development, demonstrated within large-scale, production environments.1
Architecture & Design: Proven track record of designing, implementing, and overhauling complex software architectures from inception to delivery, advising on long-term technology roadmaps.
Team Leadership: Strong team lead background with significant experience coaching, mentoring, and leading senior and junior developers.
Testing & Quality: Deep understanding and practical experience with modern testing methodologies, including TDD and Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD), and experience with frameworks such as Cucumber.
Version Control: Hands-on experience with GitLab or similar modern distributed version control and CI/CD tools.
Offshore Collaboration: Previous experience working effectively with or leading near-shore/offshore development teams.
Strategic Thinking: Ability to analyze existing technical frameworks and drive complex technical transformations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience leading a technical team through a major technology migration or platform „maturing“ initiative.
Familiarity with cloud-native development (e.g., microservices, Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience in the financial services, e-commerce, or similar high-volume domain.

Job responsibilities

Architectural Strategy & Design: Lead the redesign and evolution of our complex systems, focusing on reshaping existing technical architecture for scalability, performance, and maintainability.
Hands-on Development: Serve as a subject matter expert in both Java and Kotlin, writing high-quality, production-ready code, and establishing coding standards for the broader team.
Engineering Maturity & Coaching: Coach and mentor the development team, guiding them into a more mature space by implementing modern engineering practices, embracing DevOps principles, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical rigor.
Testing Strategy Advisory: Define and implement a comprehensive quality and testing strategy, advising on the application of frameworks like Cucumber (for BDD) and TDD to ensure high software quality and delivery speed.
Source Control & Delivery: Champion best practices for CI/CD and version control, leveraging tools such as GitLab for effective collaboration and automated delivery pipelines.
Offshore Team Leadership: Provide technical leadership and mentorship across distributed development teams, ensuring architectural consistency and smooth execution in collaboration with our offshore partners.
