Our client develops one of the best-selling iPad and iPhone applications for pilots, used by personal and business aviation, corporate flight departments, aircraft operators, government agencies, the military, and leading aircraft OEMs worldwide.
The product has been available in the App Store since July 2008 and is consistently ranked among the Top 50 grossing iPad applications. It is a mission-critical, safety-relevant application supporting real-world aviation operations.

Requirements

• 8 years of software engineering experience, with a significant portion dedicated to enterprise-level iOS ecosystems and SDK development.
• Expert-level using Swift
• Mastery of distributed systems concepts, local data persistence (Core Data), and high-scale synchronization patterns.
• Proven track record of leading large-scale architectural migrations or building mission-critical SDKs used by millions.
• Experience defining automated testing strategies for safety-critical or high-compliance industries (Aviation, Medical, or Fintech).
• Exceptional English communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical „whys“ to stakeholders and US-based product partners.
• Experience evolving engineering processes (e.g., transitioning out of SAFe) to favor autonomy and results over ceremony.

Nice to Have

• Direct experience with avionics software standards.
• Ability to navigate and bridge complex codebases involving and C++, Objective-C, C#, or Rust.
• Deep understanding of the Windows and Android ecosystems to better inform cross-platform component design.

Job responsibilities

• Define and govern the „7-year tech stack“ vision, ensuring the evolution from legacy Objective-C/C++ to a modern, high-performance Swift and cross-platform architecture.
• Own the client-side data synchronization strategy, solving the industry’s most complex challenges in data persistence, concurrency, and multi-platform integrity.
• Bridge the gap between native iOS teams and cross-platform core components (C++, Rust), ensuring seamless API contracts and shared engineering standards.
• Lead the transition away from SAFe by implementing tailored, high-efficiency technical workflows and fostering an engineering mindset focused on „safety in the air.“
• Partner with executive leadership and Product Management to plan 1–2 year major capabilities, ensuring technical debt is managed as a strategic priority.
• Establish the framework for secure, self-aware use of Gen-AI tools to accelerate refactoring and architectural transitions across the organization.
