Description
Our client, a leading international hardware and wearable technology manufacturer, is developing an advanced, head-worn situational awareness platform engineered for complex operational and field environments. The system integrates edge computing, multi-sensor video processing, and high-speed wireless connectivity to deliver a seamless, fused real-time data and visual experience for field operators.
The platform architecture centers on a wearable smart power unit anchored by an NXP i.MX 8M Plus System-on-Module (SoM) with integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, an FPGA for real-time video stream fusion, and dual hot-swappable power modules.
The engineering initiative focuses on optimizing low-level system communication, stabilizing wireless connectivity protocols (Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth), resolving USB-OTG switching issues, managing FPGA configuration over I2C, and extracting MIPI CSI-2 stream metadata to ensure a resilient, low-latency system performance.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in network access devices architecture, with a specialized focus on Wi-Fi technologies.
- Strong proficiency in C++, Linux userspace, and Linux kernel-level development.
- Deep expertise in Linux-based system architecture, bootloaders with secure boot features (especially U-Boot), drivers, device tree handling, IPC, D-Bus, and software update mechanisms.
- Proven experience in handling and debugging serial communication interfaces and peripherals (UART, USB, I2C).
- Expert-level knowledge of Wi-Fi standards (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax), Wi-Fi Direct, and Bluetooth protocols (Classic & BLE).
- Solid background in wireless security protocols (WPA2, WPA3, TLS, ECC, AES), threat/attack mitigation, Linux security hardening, and SELinux.
- Practical experience working with RF hardware, antennas, and wireless interference mitigation strategies.
- Solid understanding of the TCP/IP networking stack alongside hands-on experience with embedded Linux build systems (Buildroot, Yocto)
- Self-organized personality with strong verbal/written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Job responsibilities
- Define the end-to-end system architecture for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communication, including device management over APIs.
- Handle, configure, and debug low-level serial communication interfaces (UART, USB, I2C) to ensure stable communication between modules and peripherals.
- Define bridging modes for specific Wi-Fi chips and Ethernet interfaces to ensure seamless data routing.
- Define and implement wireless protocols for Wi-Fi (802.11) to achieve robust connectivity and low-latency transmission.
- Work closely with hardware engineers and embedded developers to guarantee seamless integration between hardware and embedded software.
- Address wireless security risks, implementing encryption, authentication, and robust data protection mechanisms across all connectivity layers.
- Apply engineering techniques to manage RF interference and ensure signal reliability in complex environments.
- Deliver technical guidance to development teams, conduct thorough design reviews, and collaborate directly with regulatory teams.
