About the role
You own the target architecture and the design decisions for an AWS data-mesh / lakehouse platform, and you are the technical authority whose sign-off a release depends on. You set the patterns the whole engineering team builds against and guarantee the platform scales to large historical loads and a growing number of data domains.

On this engagement you will join a senior team delivering a large-scale cloud data-platform program for an enterprise client in the automotive sector — migrating and stabilizing an AWS-based data lakehouse under a fixed delivery timeline.
Job responsibilities
Key responsibilities
• Own the end-to-end target architecture: medallion layering (raw → trusted → shared), data-product boundaries, and cross-account data sharing.
• Make and document the design decisions: partitioning strategy, Apache Iceberg table design (branching, rollback, maintenance), surrogate-key / CDC modeling.
• Sign off on scalability and performance for large historical-data migrations and new data domains.
• Define the infrastructure-as-code patterns (Pulumi) and review that engineering conforms to them.
• Act as design authority across ingestion, fact/dimensional, and quality layers; unblock the senior engineers.
• Contribute to the work-breakdown baseline and to release-readiness and quality-gate design.
Must-have skills
• 8+ years in data engineering / architecture, with 3+ in a lead or principal architect role.
• Deep AWS data-platform expertise: Glue (Spark), S3, Athena, Lake Formation, Step Functions, Lambda.
• Apache Iceberg internals — partitioning, branching, snapshot/rollback, table maintenance.
• Dimensional modeling at scale: fact/dimension design, surrogate & hash keys, change-data-capture / historization.
• Infrastructure-as-code with Pulumi (Python) — or strong Terraform/CDK with proven fast ramp to Pulumi.
• Proven scalability & performance design for high-volume batch data platforms.
• Ability to hold decision authority and communicate design to both engineers and business stakeholders.
Nice to have
• Experience with internal data-mesh IaC / fluent frameworks built on Pulumi.
• Databricks / Unity Catalog exposure.
• Automotive or invoice/financial data domains.
• Aurora PostgreSQL; Kong / API Gateway front-door patterns.
