Our customer (originally the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company) is an American multinational conglomerate operating in the fields of industry, worker safety, and consumer goods. Based in the Saint Paul suburb of Maplewood, the company produces over 60,000 products, including adhesives, abrasives, laminates, passive fire protection, personal protective equipment, window films, paint protection film, electrical, electronic connecting, insulating materials, car-care products, electronic circuits, and optical films.

Requirements

We are seeking an experienced and highly analytical Senior Data Business Analyst to act as the crucial link between our business stakeholders and our Data Engineering teams. In this role, you will take the lead in translating complex business challenges into precise, actionable requirements for our data platform. You will be responsible for deeply understanding business needs, performing in-depth analysis of data sources, and defining the specifications for ETL processes, data models, and data products. As a senior member of the team, you will drive key data initiatives, ensure the delivered solutions provide tangible business value, and mentor others in data analysis best practices.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 5+ years of proven experience as a Data Analyst, Business Analyst, or a similar role, with a strong focus on data warehousing, ETL, and creating data products.
• Demonstrated ability to understand, define, and thoroughly document complex business use cases and translate them into technical data requirements.
• Advanced skills in analyzing raw, disparate data sources in-depth to understand business relevance, define data engineering logic, and proactively identify quality issues.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong English language proficiency (both written and verbal) is essential for effective collaboration with internal stakeholders.
• Ability to work autonomously, take ownership of complex projects, and drive them to completion.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

• Strong knowledge of agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and experience working within an agile team.
• Experience in designing effective dashboards and reports for data visualization to solve business use cases, using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
• Familiarity or hands-on experience with data engineering tools and languages such as Python, Spark, and platforms like Databricks.
• Knowledge of modern data architecture concepts, particularly Data Mesh and the principles of Data Products.
• Experience using LLMs or other advanced analytical tools to explore and analyze data is a significant plus.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Requirements Elicitation & Management: Lead in-depth discovery sessions with business stakeholders to elicit, analyze, and clearly document business requirements, use cases, and success criteria for data-intensive projects.
• Data Source Analysis: Perform deep-dive analysis of raw and complex data sources, profiling data field-by-field to understand its business context, define transformation logic, and identify potential data quality issues.
• Technical Specification: Translate complex business needs into detailed technical specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria that are clear and actionable for the Data Engineering team (covering ETL/ELT processes, data modeling, and data warehousing).
• Bridge to Engineering: Act as a primary liaison and subject matter expert between business departments and the Data Engineering team, ensuring a shared understanding of requirements and the technical solution.
• Solution Validation & UAT: Define and lead the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) process for new data products and pipelines, ensuring that the final output meets business requirements and quality standards.
• Stakeholder Communication: Clearly articulate data concepts, project updates, and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences through presentations, documentation, and reports.
• Strategic Contribution: Proactively identify opportunities where data can be leveraged to solve business problems, improve processes, and drive strategic initiatives.
