Our customer (originally the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company) is an American multinational conglomerate operating in the fields of industry, worker safety, and consumer goods. Based in the Saint Paul suburb of Maplewood, the company produces over 60,000 products, including adhesives, abrasives, laminates, passive fire protection, personal protective equipment, window films, paint protection film, electrical, electronic connecting, insulating materials, car-care products, electronic circuits, and optical films.

Requirements

We are seeking an experienced and strategic QA Lead to own the quality of our innovative AI, NLP, and data-centric product. This is a critical role that combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership and vision. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing our end-to-end quality assurance strategy, mentoring a team of QA engineers, and ensuring our sophisticated systems meet the highest standards of reliability, accuracy, and performance. You will be the primary advocate for quality, working closely with data science, engineering, and product teams to build world-class AI solutions.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 6+ years of commercial experience in Quality Assurance, with at least 1+ years in a role focused on AI, NLP, or ML-powered products.
• Proven experience in a lead or senior role with mentoring responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of LLMs, NLP concepts, and methodologies for prompt-response testing.
• Experience designing robust test plans, test cases, and acceptance criteria for complex AI-driven systems.
• Expert-level proficiency in SQL for complex data validation, querying, and performance analysis.
• Deep functional expertise in ETL concepts, data warehousing principles, and data validation techniques.
• Comprehensive knowledge of software testing methodologies (e.g., black box, white box, risk-based, system, regression).
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical issues to diverse audiences.
• Upper-intermediate or higher English proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

• Experience with cloud data services, particularly Azure (Azure Data Factory, Databricks) or similar platforms (AWS, GCP).
• Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for verifying and presenting data insights.
• Familiarity with Python (using libraries like pandas, PySpark) for large-scale data manipulation and testing.
• Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps (or Jira) for Test Management and Bug Tracking.
• Experience with performance and load testing of data-intensive applications.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and how QA processes integrate within them.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Strategy & Leadership: Develop, implement, and own the end-to-end QA strategy for our AI/ML models and data platforms. Lead, mentor, and grow a team of QA engineers, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
• AI/ML & NLP Testing: Design and execute sophisticated test plans and acceptance criteria specifically for AI-driven systems, including the validation of Large Language Models (LLMs) and NLP features through rigorous prompt-response testing.
• Data & ETL Validation: Oversee and perform in-depth testing of ETL pipelines, data warehousing solutions, and data transformations. Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency from source to final output.
• Process & Methodology: Champion and enforce QA best practices across the development lifecycle. Define, track, and report on key quality metrics (e.g., defect density, test coverage, escape rate) to stakeholders.
• Hands-On Testing: Perform expert-level, hands-on testing, including complex SQL querying for data validation, black-box testing, regression testing, and risk-based analysis.
• Collaboration: Act as the main point of contact for all quality-related matters. Collaborate closely with developers, data scientists, and product managers to understand requirements, identify risks, and ensure alignment throughout sprints.
• Tooling & Automation: Manage bug tracking, test case management, and reporting using tools like Azure DevOps. Identify opportunities for test automation to improve efficiency and coverage.
