Description
Our client is an innovative U.S. medical device manufacturer that produces devices and software applications.
The project focuses on the development, maintenance, and enhancement of a healthcare technology platform that supports remote diagnostic testing, patient monitoring, and medical reporting.
The platform enables healthcare providers and diagnostic service organizations to manage diagnostic workflows, including test ordering, patient data collection, result processing, and report generation.
Requirements
- Experience working in complex or legacy IaC codebases using Terraform or Ansible
- Solid understanding of Kubernetes deployments, services, configuration, and troubleshooting
- Experience managing environment-specific values and deployments with Helm
- Hands-on experience with GitOps workflows, sync/health, and debugging drift
- Proficiency with Docker, Git, CI/CD pipelines (GitLab), and Linux fundamentals
- Good understanding of software delivery processes, environment lifecycle, and root-cause troubleshooting
Nice To Have:
- Experience decoupling infra and app configuration
- Experience reducing ticket-driven operational toil
- Crossplane (infrastructure abstraction / platform direction)
- Backstage or developer portals (self-service platforms)
Job responsibilities
- Analyze and understand the existing infrastructure, deployment processes, environments, integrations, and operational workflows
- Reverse-engineer infrastructure and platform behavior where documentation is missing, outdated, or incomplete
- Identify dependencies between infrastructure, applications, external services, networking, configuration, and deployment tooling
- Investigate existing automation, scripts, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and operational procedures
- Work with development and infrastructure teams to recover implicit system knowledge and validate assumptions
- Build a clear understanding of how the platform behaves under normal operation, deployment, failure, and recovery scenarios
Architecture & Technical Documentation
- Create and maintain documentation of the existing platform architecture
- Document environments, infrastructure components, network topology, integrations, dependencies, deployment flows, and operational procedures
- Create architecture diagrams, environment maps, deployment diagrams, and runbooks
- Document known limitations, technical debt, operational risks, and critical dependencies
- Establish documentation standards so that platform knowledge does not remain dependent on individual engineers
- Keep documentation aligned with future platform changes
Environment & Platform Ownership
- Create, modify, and support non-production and production-like environments
- Troubleshoot and resolve environment issues (infra, config, deployment)
- Improve reliability and consistency across environments
Backlog Reduction & Toil Elimination
- Process and prioritize environment-related requests across multiple teams
- Identify patterns in repeated requests and eliminate them through automation
- Replace manual workflows with tooling, templates, and standardized approaches
Infrastructure & Configuration Improvements
- Work within and improve existing Terraform (legacy + coupled) codebases
- Help separate infrastructure provisioning from application configuration
- Improve reuse, modularity, and safety of infrastructure code
Kubernetes & GitOps Operations
- Deploy and manage applications in Kubernetes environments
- Operate and improve Argo CD-based GitOps workflows
- Manage Helm-based deployments and configuration patterns
CI/CD & Automation
- Improve CI/CD pipelines in GitLab to reduce environment-specific drift
- Build scripts/tools to automate repetitive tasks and operations
- Improve determinism and repeatability of environment creation
