Job Description: Principal Software Development Architect – rApps (O-RAN)
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Design: End-to-end architectural design of intelligent rApps focused on RAN optimization, automation, and management (e.g., energy saving, traffic steering, beamforming optimization).
SMO & RIC Integration: Define and implement robust integration patterns between rApps and the Non-RT RIC / SMO platform using standard O-RAN R1, O1, and A1 interfaces.
Development & Coding: Lead by example by writing clean, scalable, and secure microservices-based code (Python, Go, or Java) and mentoring junior developers.
On-Site Deployment & Delivery: Drive the hands-on deployment, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of rApps directly within live customer network environments or trial labs.
Standardization Compliance: Ensure all software architectures strictly align with the latest O-RAN Alliance specifications (specifically Working Group 2 and Working Group 10).
Customer Consultation: Act as the primary technical point of contact for customer engineering teams, translating complex operator requirements into software architectures.
Required Technical Skills & Experience
1. Deep understanding of O-RAN Architecture, specifically Non-RT RIC, SMO, Near-RT RIC, and the O1, A1, and R1 interfaces.
2. Proficiency in Python, Go, or Java with a strong background in developing cloud-native microservices.
3. Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (K8s), Docker, Helm charts, and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI).
4. Experience with Kafka, MQTT, or gRPC for high-throughput data ingestion and messaging between SMO and rApps.
5. Familiarity with NETCONF/YANG, RESTconf, and SNMP protocols used in O1 interface management.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience: 8+ years in telecom software development, with at least 2+ years of dedicated experience designing and deploying O-RAN rApps.
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Proven Track Record: Demonstrated experience in successfully delivering and deploying rApps at a customer site (lab trials or commercial rollouts).
Soft Skills: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex architectural concepts to both internal developers and executive-level customers.
