We are seeking a highly accomplished Director, Labor, Employment and Litigation – North America to provide strategic legal counsel across the United States and Canada. This role is ideal for a risk-calibrated attorney with strong business instincts and practical experience navigating complex regulatory, compliance, litigation, and employment matters—particularly within fast-paced, multinational settings.

In this role, you will work closely with global legal colleagues and business leaders, playing a pivotal part in shaping legal strategy and decision-making. You will also have the opportunity to help define the culture, identity, and values of a dynamic legal team, contributing to a smart, collaborative, and collegial department that spans continents.

GlobalLogic estimates the starting pay range for this role to be performed in USA is $150,000-200,000 to and reflects base salary only. This pay range is provided as a good faith estimate and the amount offered may be higher or lower. Requirements

  • Qualifications & Experience
  • J.D. degree from a nationally recognized law school; active member in good standing of the California Bar.
  • 8+ years of legal experience, including:
  • In-house experience at a multinational technology or professional services company.     
  • Strong familiarity with legal and regulatory frameworks in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Preference for candidates with IT services sector experience.
  • Extensive experience in employment law, including providing day-to-day counseling and managing employment-related litigation
  • Established history of managing outside counsel and overseeing legal matters independently.
  • Experience of employment law involving non-exempt workforce populations strongly preferred.

Job responsibilities

Regulatory & Compliance Leadership

  • Design and oversee U.S. and Canadian compliance initiatives aligned with applicable laws and Hitachi Group policies
  • Provide proactive advice to business and functional teams on regulatory developments and compliance risk mitigation

Employment & Labor Law

  • Advise on employment and labor law matters in the U.S. and Canada, supporting internal People teams and aligning with Hitachi’s shared services group where appropriate
  • Provide counsel on issues related to non-exempt workforce management, wage and hour compliance, and workplace practices
  • Draft, update, and implement employment-related policies and training programs to ensure compliance and support organizational culture
  • Experience with labor organizing, union-related matters, or collective bargaining frameworks is a strong plus.

Litigation & Risk Management

  • Serve as the primary legal point of contact for North American employment litigation, including managing outside counsel and litigation strategy
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to realistically manage risk and ensure alignment with business goals.

Cross-Functional Influence

  • Work closely with senior legal colleagues to harmonize global legal strategy with regional priorities
  • Act as a trusted legal advisor to business leadership, bringing insight and creativity to complex legal challenges

Mentorship & Leadership

  • Act as a role model of sound judgment, integrity, and accountability within the legal department and broader organization
  • Provide professional mentorship and contribute meaningfully to a collaborative, growth-oriented, and high-performing team culture
