Description

The Infrastructure Lead / DevOps / IT will be the primary technical owner of the lab infrastructure—responsible for design, deployment, and ongoing management of a mixed environment combining VMware virtualization, physical QNX systems, and MikroTik-based network segmentation.
This role bridges architecture, implementation, and operations, ensuring scalability, reliability, and secure connectivity (via Cato VPN). The candidate will work closely with the Infrastructure Architect and IT Junior to bring the lab to production readiness.

Requirements

Required Qualifications
– 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, DevOps, or Systems Administration.
– Strong background in VMware vSphere / vCenter, NFS, and networking (VLANs, routing, NAT).
– Proficiency with Linux server administration (Ubuntu) and infrastructure automation (Ansible, Terraform, or similar).
– Experience with MikroTik RouterOS or similar L3 devices.
– Understanding of redundant power and cooling systems in rack environments.
– Ability to manage small projects end-to-end, working across multiple domains (compute, storage, network).

Preferred Skills
– Knowledge of QNX OS or other real-time operating systems.
– Familiarity with Cato VPN or SASE frameworks.
– Hands-on experience with Synology NAS or other NFS-based storage systems.
– Understanding of HA/DRS configurations and performance tuning.
– Experience documenting as-built infrastructure and building runbooks for ongoing operations.
– Excellent communication skills for working with architects, consultants, and management.

Job responsibilities

Network & Virtualization Deployment
– Deploy and configure VMware ESXi, vCenter, and NFS datastores (Synology RS3621RPxs).
– Implement VLANs/VRFs on MikroTik CCR2004 and CRS354 switches.
– Configure Cato VPN and dual-ISP WAN failover.

System Administration & Automation
– Maintain Linux (Ubuntu 24) and QNX nodes within each group.
– Implement and manage automation (Ansible/Terraform) for repeatable “add group” provisioning.
– Perform HA/DRS setup, vMotion validation, and failover testing.

Security & Monitoring
– Harden network and host configurations (SSH keys, ACLs, Syslog, Fail2ban).
– Deploy centralized logging, monitoring, and configuration backup routines.

Operations & Collaboration
– Coordinate with electrical and facility consultants for UPS and cooling validation.
– Support documentation and training during handover.
– Mentor IT Junior on hardware handling and configuration best practices.
