Description

Senior Backend Engineer to help build scalable, AI-powered search and retrieval systems that support critical member-facing experiences. This role will focus on backend services, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch infrastructure, ETL/data pipelines, and AI-enabled search capabilities across large and diverse data domains.

You will help design and optimize global search experiences that leverage lexical, semantic, and hybrid search techniques while supporting AI-agent-driven workflows and high-performance retrieval systems.

Requirements

1. 7+ years of backend engineering experience building scalable distributed systems
2. Strong hands-on experience with OpenSearch and/or Elasticsearch in production environments
3. Experience with search optimization, indexing strategies, and query performance tuning
4. Experience building ETL/data processing pipelines and event-driven systems, including experience with cloud-native workflow and serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda, EventBridge, AWS Glue, or similar platforms
5. Experience integrating or deploying AI/LLM-based solutions in production environments
6. Strong proficiency in Python and/or Java
7. Experience designing APIs and microservice architectures
8. Strong understanding of cloud-native application development
9. Excellent problem-solving and communication skill

Job responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend systems and APIs supporting search and AI-driven features
• Develop and optimize search capabilities using OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, including lexical, semantic, and hybrid search
• Improve search relevance, indexing strategies, query performance, and scalability
• Build and maintain ETL and indexing pipelines for batch and near real-time data processing
• Support AI-powered search experiences and agent-based retrieval workflows
• Contribute to architecture decisions, engineering standards, and technical strategy
