Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Java Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to our mission of powering purpose. In this role, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and implementing high-performance, scalable Java-based APIs and microservices for one of client’s core applications, which facilitates volunteering programs. Leveraging deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and modern API development practices, you will build robust microservices that meet the demanding needs of our growing platform.

Requirements

• 7+ years of proven experience in Java development, with a focus on API and microservices architecture.
• Expert-level proficiency in the Spring Boot framework.
• Strong experience in implementing core API management principles, including AWS API Gateway.
• Proven experience with relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL, and distributed databases like CockroachDB.
• Proven experience with AWS and various Cloud managed services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Amazon Managed Service for Apache Flink).
• Strong experience with message brokers such as Kafka.
• Strong CI/CD experience using Docker within pipelines on tools like Jenkins or Github Workflows.
• Strong experience with container orchestration.
• Strong experience with implementing unit, integration, performance (JMeter), and end-to-end tests (Postman, JUnit) on APIs.
• Expert-level experience with Git and GitHub.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience implementing monitoring and observability in microservices (leveraging tools for structured logs, traces, metrics, analytics, and code analysis).
• Deep understanding of microservices architecture patterns and API design & implementation best practices (e.g., authentication & authorization, API security, API documentation and contract generation).
• Strong experience with ApigeeX.
• Experience with agile development methodologies (Scrum).
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Job responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Java-based APIs and microservices using the Spring Boot framework.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code, adhering to established best practices and coding standards.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, QA, and DevOps, to deliver high-quality software within agile sprints.
• Participate in the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements definition and design to implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
• Optimize API performance to consistently achieve sub-second response times under high load, ensuring 99.9% uptime and scalability to handle thousands of requests per day.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, ensuring minimal disruption to service availability.
• Implement robust security measures, including OAuth 2.0 and JWT, to protect newly implemented APIs and sensitive data.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of Benevity’s development processes and tools, advocating for best practices and innovation.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Contribute to technical documentation.
