This is a key role that will be instrumental in driving the development of a highly complex next-generation medical device, ensuring seamless integration with both legacy and modern infrastructures. You will be at the forefront of advancing eye care technology, ensuring compliance with medical device regulations, and leading six distributed specialised engineering teams to deliver innovative and impactful products.

Our client is a global leader in eye care, committed to enhancing sight through innovative products for vision correction and surgical treatments. Their extensive portfolio includes contact lenses, eye care solutions, and surgical instruments for cataract and retina procedures, serving customers in over 140 countries.

This critical project focuses on the seamless integration of existing medical devices into modern cloud and on-premises infrastructures. Recognizing the gradual adoption of next-generation solutions in the field, our client aims to develop a comprehensive suite of tools, services, and libraries. The objective is to ensure robust data interoperability, integrity, and security across a mixed environment of legacy and modern systems.

The project is already in progress. The immediate need is to scale up the software engineering team to accelerate detailed design, implementation, and rigorous verification & validation activities. You will play a vital role in leading this expansion and ensuring the successful delivery of this crucial scope of work.

Requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual who embodies both strong technical leadership and managerial prowess, with a deep understanding of the medical device landscape:

  • Proven Leadership: A demonstrated track record of successfully managing and leading several distributed software development teams across various geographies and vendor partnerships.
  • Medical Device Domain Expertise: Extensive experience in leading healthcare/medical device software projects, with a strong understanding of the full product lifecycle, including successful navigation of regulatory pathways (e.g., FDA, MDR/MDD certification).
  • Agile & Regulatory Acumen: Deep knowledge of various agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and a proven ability to adapt them effectively within the constraints of medical device regulations. You must possess a comprehensive understanding of medical device Quality Management Systems (QMS) and the ability to ensure product compliance.
  • Technical Depth: Profound experience in software development, with the ability to critically review code, assess architectural designs, and provide effective technical guidance. Previous experience leading multiple teams as an architect is highly desirable.
  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Proven ability to create comprehensive project roadmaps, establish realistic milestones, and develop robust recovery plans to ensure project success.
