Description

The project involves supporting a global media network in a multi-year technology transformation initiative. This significant undertaking is focused on modernizing the network’s broadcast and media infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency, increase scalability, and enable innovative content creation and delivery models.

A primary goal is the transition from legacy baseband infrastructure to a software-defined, IP-based architecture aligned with industry standards like SMPTE ST2110. This includes designing and implementing the core IP network infrastructure and integrating various broadcast systems onto this new foundation.

A key area of focus within this transformation is the implementation of advanced live production workflows, leveraging cloud platforms to provide increased flexibility, scalability, and cost efficiency compared to traditional on-premises setups. This involves integrating software-based production tools and potentially reusing existing hardware where feasible through technologies like IP gateways.

The project also aims to enable remote production and resource sharing across various global locations, connecting headquarters with major hubs and smaller offices. The transformation seeks to integrate AI-driven tools across the media value chain to automate tasks, enhance content processing, and enable data-driven insights.

This program is being executed through a phased, incremental approach, requiring close collaboration with the client’s internal teams and potentially involving oversight of other third-party system integrators and technology partners. The ultimate goal is to establish a future-ready, highly available, and resilient infrastructure that supports the network’s evolving needs in content creation, distribution, and audience engagement across linear and digital platforms.

Requirements

We are seeking a highly experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team supporting a major media technology transformation project. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge in broadcast IP networking, particularly SMPTE ST2110, and extensive experience in designing and implementing cloud-based live production workflows. This client-facing role requires the ability to provide expert guidance, evaluate technical solutions, and support the implementation of a modern, scalable, and resilient broadcast infrastructure.

Must have:

  • Extensive, proven experience in the design and implementation of broadcast systems based on the SMPTE ST2110 suite of standards. This includes hands-on experience with uncompressed video, audio, and data over IP.
  • Demonstrated success in migrating complex broadcast infrastructures from traditional baseband (SDI) to IP-based networks.
  • Deep understanding of IP networking principles relevant to broadcast environments, including multicast, Precision Time Protocol (PTP), and Quality of Service (QoS).
  • Significant experience implementing cloud-based live production solutions, leveraging public, private, or hybrid cloud platforms.
  • Proven ability to integrate and ensure interoperability between solutions from diverse broadcast technology vendors, including both software (like Grass Valley AMPP, Evertz Dreamcatcher, Simply Live, VMix, VizRT) and hardware (such as SDI/SMPTE-2110 gateways).
  • Expertise in evaluating existing broadcast technology infrastructure, systems, and workflows to identify challenges and inform transformation strategies.
  • Experience designing scalable, resilient, and high-availability broadcast architectures.
  • Strong client-facing skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to various stakeholders.
  • Experience working on large-scale technology transformation programs in the media or broadcast industry.
  • Proficiency in ensuring solutions adhere to relevant industry standards (e.g., SMPTE, AMWA NMOS, JT-NM recommendations).

Nice to have:

  • Experience with hybrid cloud media solutions.
  • Experience with virtualized production environments.
  • Direct experience enabling remote production capabilities across geographically dispersed locations.
  • Familiarity with the integration and use of AI-driven tools in media workflows (e.g., for metadata, automation, analytics, or content verification).
  • Experience with broadcast disaster recovery and business continuity planning, particularly leveraging hybrid cloud models.
  • Advanced knowledge of IP networking protocols beyond basic routing and switching, such as IGMP, PIM, MC-LAG, TRILL, or OSPF.
  • Prior experience working in or with organizations in the Middle Eastern media market.
  • Experience contributing to or leading change management and training initiatives related to technology adoption in media organizations.
  • Experience evaluating technology partners and vendors for large-scale projects.

Job responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary Subject Matter Expert on SMPTE ST2110 and IP-based broadcast infrastructure for the transformation program.
  • Lead or support the design and technical planning for the transition from traditional baseband to a software-defined, IP-native architecture.
  • Provide expert guidance on the design and implementation of cloud-based live production workflows, integrating these with both existing and new on-premises systems.
  • Evaluate existing broadcast and media infrastructure, including SDI, IP, and cloud components, assessing technical readiness and identifying gaps relative to the target state.
  • Develop strategies and technical approaches for migrating workflows, potentially utilizing SDI/IP gateways to facilitate the reuse of existing SDI equipment where appropriate.
  • Ensure all proposed and implemented technical solutions comply with relevant industry standards, including SMPTE ST2110, AMWA NMOS, and JT-NM recommendations.
  • Work closely with technical teams, both internal and potentially external (System Integrators, other partners), to ensure technical alignment and successful execution.
  • Contribute to the definition of technical requirements, architectural diagrams, and implementation plans for various phases of the transformation roadmap.
  • Provide technical expertise to support the enablement of remote production and resource sharing capabilities across different locations.
  • Review and assess technical proposals from vendors and partners.
  • Support knowledge transfer activities and contribute to the development of training materials for client technical and operational teams.
  • Contribute to identifying, assessing, and proposing mitigation strategies for technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure solutions are designed for scalability, resilience, and optimal performance.
