Description

We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to lead the architecture, development, and scaling of our core platform services. This role requires a leader who is equally comfortable designing a multi-region deployment strategy on GCP as they are writing highly performant code in Ruby on Rails or Python. The Director will be responsible for the technical vision, operational excellence, and mentorship of a team of backend engineers across the LATAM and India regions.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

-. 7+ years of total experience in Software Engineering, with at least 2 years in a Senior or Lead role responsible for system architecture.
-. Expert-level proficiency with Ruby on Rails and Python in a high-scale production environment.
-. Deep expertise in database design, performance tuning, and scaling Postgresql.
-. Extensive experience leveraging Redis for complex caching, message queues, and other performance optimizations.
-. Proven hands-on experience designing and operating infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
-. Strong knowledge of containerization (Docker/Podman) and experience with modern deployment/orchestration techniques.
– Proficiency with Linux operating systems and command-line tools.
-. Demonstrated experience with Github for advanced SCM and code review workflows.

Preferred Qualifications
-. Experience managing geographically distributed teams, particularly across LATAM and India.
-. Familiarity with building and scaling microservices architecture.
-. Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
-. Experience with other languages like Go or JavaScript (Node.js) is a plus.

Job responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture
-. Define and own the long-term technical roadmap and backend architecture for the platform, ensuring solutions are scalable, fault-tolerant, and cost-efficient.
-. Lead the design and implementation of new services and APIs, focusing on performance, reliability, and security across the entire stack.
-. Drive the effective utilization of GCP services, containerization technologies (Docker/Podman), and Linux environments for production deployment and operations.
-. Serve as the top technical escalation point for complex architectural and production issues.

Engineering Execution & Standards
-. Maintain a hands-on approach, contributing high-quality, production-ready code in Ruby on Rails and Python when necessary.
-. Establish, document, and enforce high coding standards, best practices (e.g., test-driven development, code reviews), and a strong Gitflow strategy using Github.
-. Oversee the management and optimization of key data systems, including Postgresql for relational data persistence and Redis for caching, session management, and asynchronous processing.
-. Collaborate closely with the single Automation Engineer to ensure continuous integration, delivery, and testing are integral parts of the workflow.

Mentorship and Team Development
-. Lead, mentor, and coach the 5-person engineering team, helping individual contributors grow their technical and soft skills.

-. Partner with Product Management and other Directors to align technical initiatives with business goals and manage project priorities.
