We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Software Architect to join our team. In this role, you will be instrumental in driving the evolution of our platform on Microsoft Azure, addressing scalability and stability challenges stemming from a monolithic Pulumi stack, and fostering a culture of architectural excellence. You will be responsible for refactoring our existing solution into a more manageable and scalable microservices architecture, while also mentoring and guiding other engineers. A key focus will be breaking down our current single Pulumi stack into smaller, more manageable stacks.
What you’ll do:
• Architectural Design & Implementation:
o Drive architecture-evolution hands-on, with a clear focus on minimizing time-to-delivery and stability. Analyze if decomposing our monolithic applications into microservices is beneficial.
o Define architectural patterns and best practices for scalability, resilience, and maintainability within the Azure ecosystem.
o Design and implement REST APIs for internal and external consumption.
o Create architecture diagrams, data models, API specifications, and high-level solution designs.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Pulumi:
o Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and tools, specifically Pulumi with Python, to automate infrastructure provisioning and management on Azure.
o Improve our overall IaC setup, with a focus on offering value to our customers in a meaningful manner. Analyze how to deliver templates to customers in a faster way. If necessary, lead the effort to break down our existing monolithic Pulumi stack into smaller, more manageable, and independent stacks.
o Design and implement modular and reusable infrastructure components using Pulumi and Python.
o Implement, evolve and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure changes.
• Platform Development & Refactoring:
o Lead the refactoring of a large, complex Python codebase to improve readability, maintainability, and testability.
o Identify and address code complexity, interdependencies, and resilience issues.
o Implement strategies for reducing technical debt and improving code quality.
• Collaboration & Mentorship:
o Collaborate with cross-functional and international teams to define requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
o Mentor and guide other engineers on architectural principles, design patterns, and best practices, particularly related to Azure and Pulumi.
o Promote knowledge sharing and documentation of architectural decisions.
o Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Technology Stack:
o Proficiency in Python and related frameworks.
o Extensive experience with Pulumi for Infrastructure as Code, specifically using Python (Pulumi is a plus, however IAC experience is a must).
o Deep understanding of Microsoft Azure services and best practices.
o Possesses deep expertise in a variety of software architectural styles e.g. layered , event-driven or microservice architectures. Has a proven track record of successfully migrating applications between these different styles, understanding the trade-offs and benefits of each.
o Experience with web-based applications and deep knowledge in object-oriented programming principles and architectural patterns.
What you’ll bring:
• Experience:
o 5+ years of experience in software architecture and development.
o Proven experience in designing and implementing microservices architectures on Microsoft Azure.
o Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), preferably using Pulumi and Python on Azure.
o Experience in developing and deploying platforms on Azure.
o Demonstrated experience in breaking down large infrastructure deployments into smaller, more manageable units.
• Technical Skills:
o Proficiency in architectural patterns, design patterns, and software development best practices.
o Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles.
o Experience with API design and development (REST).
o Solid understanding of data modeling and database design (SQL and NoSQL).
o Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Azure Kubernetes Service – AKS).
o Experience with Ci/CD
• Soft Skills:
o Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
o Ability to lead, mentor, and influence technical teams.
o A passion for learning and staying up-to-date with the latest technologies, especially within the Azure ecosystem.
o Preferably experience with working in international environments.
Bonus Points:
• Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
• Contributions to open-source Pulumi projects.
