Description
Our client is a leading European bank and financial services institution committed to delivering modern, customer-centric digital banking solutions. Guided by strong values of simplicity, accessibility, and financial transparency, the organization serves consumer and commercial banking markets with a diverse range of lending, savings, and payment services.
This project is part of a strategic enterprise initiative to modernize and scale the bank’s core data platform on AWS. The initiative focuses on migrating away from legacy data infrastructures into a modern, event-driven lakehouse architecture capable of supporting real-time streaming, advanced analytics, and strict regulatory reporting. You will join an established engineering team to accelerate production execution, establish engineering best practices, and deliver resilient data products in a secure financial environment.
Requirements
- Must-Have
Advanced proficiency in Python, PySpark, and complex SQL for building high-performance, production-grade data pipelines. - Extensive hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating solutions using key AWS services (e.g., S3, Glue, EMR, Lambda, Step Functions or MWAA/Airflow, Redshift, Lake Formation).
- Proven production expertise with Apache Spark for scalable data processing, combined with advanced dbt experience for modular data modeling, testing, and deployment.
- Practical experience implementing event-driven streaming solutions with Apache Kafka or AWS MSK, alongside Change Data Capture (CDC) workflows using AWS DMS, Debezium, or equivalent tools.
- Hands-on experience managing infrastructure via Terraform or AWS CDK, combined with automated CI/CD deployments and comprehensive testing frameworks (unit, integration, and data-quality/reconciliation testing).
Nice-to-Have
- 7+ years of dedicated data engineering experience; prior work in banking, fintech, or strictly regulated environments.
- Working knowledge of GDPR, PII protection, least-privilege IAM, encryption at rest/in transit, and financial auditability standards.
- Familiarity with lakehouse architectures, dimensional modeling, data contracts, and schema evolution.
- Experience setting up CloudWatch monitoring, alerting, automated lineage, and production incident recovery runbooks.
- Practical knowledge of schema registries, event replay, deduplication, and exactly-once/idempotent processing.
Job responsibilities
- Design, implement, deploy, and maintain robust batch, real-time streaming, and CDC pipelines on AWS.
- Build clean, maintainable, and production-ready data pipelines and transformation logic using Python, PySpark, SQL, and dbt.
- Create reusable, resilient ingestion patterns across diverse sources, including relational databases, APIs, flat files, and real-time event streams.
- Implement and operate Kafka/MSK streaming pipelines and CDC workflows using AWS DMS or Debezium.
- Develop optimized, standardized data models supporting both analytical consumption and operational data use cases within a lakehouse pattern.
- Migrate and refactor legacy ETL workloads into scalable, AWS-native serverless or distributed services.
- Implement automated data-quality controls, data reconciliation frameworks, monitoring, alerting, and end-to-end data lineage.
- Actively monitor pipelines, diagnose latency bottlenecks, resolve data anomalies, and maintain operational runbooks.
- Apply security-by-design principles to ensure all data handling adheres to strict financial compliance, encryption, and privacy standards.
- Manage platform infrastructure and continuous deployment pipelines using Terraform, CDK, and CI/CD tools.
