We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Software Engineer to lead the definition and management of software requirements and architecture for the system control software in our medical device. This area involves the development of real-time and safety-critical software services and hardware control functions on an embedded System-on-a- Chip with QNX.
Core Qualifications Include:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
3+ years of experience in software development for embedded or safety-critical systems.
3+ years of experience in software requirements engineering for embedded or safety-critical systems.
Experience with real-time operating systems, preferably QNX.
Experience with integration testing, lab setups, and hardware-software interaction.
Proficiency in modeling techniques (e.g., state machines, sequence diagrams, data flow).
Experience with requirements management tools and traceability frameworks.
Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
Fluent in German and English
Preferred Qualifications Include:
Familiarity with laser-based systems, actuators, and sensor integration.
Experience in medical device development or other regulated industries.
Familiarity with QNX-specific development tools and debugging techniques.
Certification in requirements engineering (e.g., IREB, CPRE) or medical software development.
Core Job Responsibilities:
Requirements Engineering
Analyze and document software requirements based on system specifications and stakeholder input.
Define functional and non-functional requirements for real-time control of laser systems, actuators, and sensors.
Ensure traceability from system-level requirements to software design, implementation, and verification artifacts.
Collaborate with software architects and developers to ensure feasibility, clarity, and completeness of requirements.
Steer the software development based on your requirements by ensuring a common understanding evaluating development results
System Understanding & Safety
Understand the behavior of real-time control systems, including timing constraints, concurrency, and fault handling.
Contribute to hazard analysis, risk assessments, and safety classification of software components.
Ensure requirements support compliance with standards such as IEC 62304
Integration Testing
Plan, coordinate, and execute integration testing activities in the lab, focusing on real-time interactions between software, hardware, sensors, and actuators.
Develop test scenarios and procedures to validate system behavior under normal and fault conditions.
Analyze test results, identify root causes of issues, and support debugging and resolution in collaboration with development teams.
Process & Documentation
Maintain requirements in a structured tool environment (e.g., Polarion).
Support design reviews, audits, and regulatory submissions with high-quality documentation.
Contribute to continuous improvement of requirements engineering processes and templates.
