Legal / Trade and Export Compliance:  New team member to manage GL’s trade and export compliance program.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:
● Minimum of 7+ years of relevant experience with a focus on U.S. export control regulations (EAR, ITAR, and OFAC).
● Demonstrated experience in classifying software and technology and managing export license applications.
● Strong understanding of U.S. sanctions regulations and their application to a global business.

● Experienced user of government licensing and AES reporting sites (e.g. DECCS, SNAP-R, ACE, SPIRE, etc.)
● Familiarity with the export control laws and regulations of other countries and regions, including Japan, the UK, and the EU.
● English fluency, oral and written
● Experience developing and delivering export control training programs.
● Experience with customs regulations and procedures.
● Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
● Strong business focus to promote full compliance in an agile, efficient, and business-friendly manner.
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced environment.
● Strong organizational skills, project management, and attention to detail.
● Ability to operate effectively in the face of competing priorities.

Useful Additional Qualifications: ● Export Compliance certification (e.g., Certified Export Compliance Professional (CECP) strongly preferred)
● Experience working for a large multinational company and experience working across many countries, particularly Japan.

Job responsibilities

Responsibilities:

● Serve as the subject matter expert on export control laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and sanctions administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
● Develop, scale, implement, and maintain internal export control policies, procedures, record-keeping, and fit-for-purpose training programs.
● Classify software and technology according to the Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) and determine applicable license requirements.
● Manage the preparation and submission of export license applications and other required filings with relevant U.S. and international government agencies.
● Conduct risk assessments and audits to identify potential export control compliance issues and implement corrective actions.
● Provide timely and practical compliance advice to internal stakeholders on export control matters, including engineering, sales, and engineering delivery teams.
● Monitor changes in U.S. and international export control laws and regulations and advise the company on necessary updates to policies and procedures.
● Conduct internal investigations related to potential export control violations.
● Provide guidance on international export control laws and regulations, including those of Japan, the United Kingdom, and the European Union.
● Liaise with Hitachi export compliance colleagues.
