Description

We are seeking a self-motivated Lead Android Engineer to join our team. You will design, build, and deliver medical-grade Android applications and SDKs in Kotlin and Java with a strong focus on internationalization and localization for multiple markets. In this role you will define the i18n/l10n strategy, ensure accessibility and regulatory readiness, mentor the team, and partner cross-functionally to ship high-quality releases on time.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years native Android development; proven experience in Kotlin (with Java interop).
• Demonstrated proficiency in wireless communications and mobile application technologies.
• Strong understanding of Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices (including Jetpack Compose).
• Demonstrated experience with Web services, Cloud and API technologies.
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies and develop POC/prototypes.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail; own and drive technical design and development of cross-functional, multi-platform
• applications.
• Proven leadership in internationalization/localization and accessibility (strings/plurals/ICU, XLIFF, RTL, TalkBack/Dynamic Type).
• Knowledge of the open-source Android ecosystem and common libraries.
• Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Experience mentoring engineers and participating in design reviews/hiring; strong communication with technical and management stakeholders.
• Experience with Agile software development preferred.
• Experience launching products in FCC & FDA regulated industries preferred.
• Mobile apps or Cloud apps software development tools.
• Prior experience in RxJava, Realm, Room, Coroutines is a big plus.
• Nice-to-have: experience defining architecture standards and CI/CD quality gates.

Job responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of high-quality Android applications using Kotlin/Java (KMM where applicable).
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional groups to define, design, and deploy new capabilities and releases.
• Translate customer and market needs into efficient, secure mobile solutions.
• Design and build the next-generation, cloud-connected mobile platform supporting patient/device-centric products.
• Define the Android i18n/l10n approach and standards (XLIFF pipeline, plurals/ICU, RTL, pseudolocalization) and ensure accessibility compliance.
• Lead scoping and estimation; break work into modules and align plans with Program Management.
• Effectively present concepts and solutions to customers, partners, and leadership.
• Write clean, maintainable, efficient code; troubleshoot and optimize performance.
• Run technical design/code reviews, mentor engineers, and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
• Set and monitor CI/CD quality gates (lint, unit/UI/Compose tests, screenshot/RTL checks).
• Stay current with industry trends and technologies to keep our mobile solutions competitive.
