About the Role
We are seeking an innovative and passionate Senior QA Automation Engineer (Backend) to join our team in Romania. You will take ownership of quality assurance and delivery for a greenfield API project. In this role, you will collaborate closely with developers and architects to design, implement, and maintain robust testing solutions, ensuring software quality, reliability, and performance. You will work with cutting-edge technology in a competitive and fast-paced environment.

In this pivotal role, you will significantly contribute to ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of a new data exchange platform. This platform will support real-time communication and data synchronization with external systems, establishing the necessary infrastructure for critical integrations.

Our client is a B2B SaaS company specialized in compliance and ethics solutions. Their flagship product is a whistleblowing and compliance platform facing growing demand for robust integrations. Many large enterprise and U.S. clients require a public, bi-directional API to integrate this product with their diverse external case management tools.
This initiative is crucial for our client’s competitive advantage and to meet regulations.

Requirements

This position is ideal for an innovative and passionate engineer who wants to take ownership of quality assurance and delivery, collaborating closely with developers and architects to evaluate, design, and implement robust testing solutions for this greenfield API project. • Professional QA Automation Experience: 5+ years, with deep hands-on experience in automation testing, specifically focused on API and backend systems.
• Programming Languages: Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript for developing and maintaining automated test scripts.
• Test Automation Frameworks: Proven experience with Playwright for E2E testing. Familiarity with k6.io for load testing and pact.io for contract tests is a plus.
• Cloud Platforms & Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS and Kubernetes.
• DevOps & CI/CD: Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI) and integrating test automation into these workflows. An understanding of DevOps processes and pipeline configuration is beneficial.
• Databases: Experience with SQL, NoSQL databases, and key-value stores.
• Testing Practices: Solid understanding and application of QA practices including black box testing, risk-based testing, system testing, regression testing, and exploratory testing. Experience creating test plans, structured manual regression suites, and defining robust automated test suites in distributed or microservices environments.
• Version Control Systems: Familiarity with Git (GitLab preferred).
• Agile Methodologies: Advocating and implementing Agile methodologies to promote innovation and collaboration.
• Communication & Collaboration: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and collaboration skills, comfortable bridging different team’s roles. Upper-intermediate English (verbal & written).
• Documentation: Skilled in creating clear technical documentation and implementation strategies.
• Desired Qualities: A proactive approach to continuous learning and development. Ability to work within existing architectures, focusing on consistency, maintainability, and delivery.

Job responsibilities

• Own the quality strategy for a high-impact public API project, diagnosing defects and tracking them from discovery to resolution.
• Develop and maintain automated test cases for API and integration layers using modern frameworks.
• Conduct rigorous testing of backend systems without user interfaces, focusing on API testing.
• Implement testing mechanisms to verify secure and correct handling of encoded user data.
• Execute and track manual testing (regression, exploratory, smoke) to uncover edge cases and strengthen automation coverage.
• Collaborate closely with development teams to ensure solutions meet business goals; participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous integration and delivery.
• Advocate for and implement Agile methodologies to promote innovation and collaboration.
• Produce clear technical documentation of testing strategies, findings, and release readiness.
