The Test SME brings AI-native quality engineering expertise to the enablement squad. They transform how squads approach testing — moving from manual, labour-intensive test practices to AI-augmented quality workflows where Claude Code (or equivalent agentic CLI tooling) generates test cases, identifies coverage gaps, and maintains regression suites, enabling squads to ship faster with higher confidence.
Requirements
Required Skills & Experience
Strong quality engineering background with experience across unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end testing strategies
Hands-on experience with Claude Code (or equivalent agentic CLI tooling — Cursor, Codex CLI, Cline, Aider): writing custom skills for test automation, building subagents for coverage analysis, and configuring MCP servers for test infrastructure
Experience with modern test frameworks and tooling (Jest, Playwright, Cypress, pytest, or similar) and the ability to integrate AI tooling alongside them
Understanding of AI-native SDLC practices and how testing must evolve when code is generated or augmented by AI
Experience with test architecture at scale — knowing when to test, what to test, and how to maintain fast feedback loops in large codebases
Ability to coach engineers on testing practices — shifting quality left and making testing a shared responsibility rather than a bottleneck
Comfortable assessing unfamiliar codebases and quickly identifying the highest-impact quality improvements
Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience with property-based testing, mutation testing, or formal verification approaches
Background in performance or reliability engineering (load testing, chaos engineering, SRE practices)
Familiarity with contract testing in microservice architectures (Pact, Spring Cloud Contract)
Experience in financial services quality assurance (regulatory testing requirements, audit trails)
Experience defining and tracking quality metrics (defect escape rate, test cycle time, coverage trends)
Job responsibilities
Assess the engineering team’s current testing maturity during the discovery phase — identifying gaps in coverage, slow feedback loops, and manual bottlenecks that block rapid delivery
Design and implement AI-native testing strategies: using Claude Code (or equivalent agentic CLI tooling) to generate test cases from requirements, analyse coverage gaps, and detect regression risks
Build custom Claude Code (or equivalent agentic CLI tooling) skills and subagents focused on quality engineering — automated test generation, test data management, and intelligent test selection
Define quality gates within the AI-native SDLC that provide fast, automated feedback without creating delivery drag
Embed testing best practices into product squads through pairing, code review, and hands-on demonstration
Create reusable testing patterns (frameworks, templates, agent configurations) that are made centrally available for use across all engineering teams
Work alongside squad developers to ensure AI-generated code meets quality standards and that testing keeps pace with accelerated delivery
