Description

We are looking for an experienced Full-Stack Android Automotive Developer to join our automotive OEM client’s engineering team, developing and integrating next-generation Infotainment and In-Vehicle Experience platforms. The role focuses on Android Automotive OS (AAOS), Vehicle HAL (VHAL), Android system services, native C++ development, and Android platform build and integration.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience across the Android software stack, with a solid understanding of AOSP architecture, vehicle data integration, embedded Linux/Android platforms, and build systems such as Soong, Android.bp, and Make. The role involves developing and debugging system-level components, integrating vehicle signals and services, troubleshooting platform issues, and collaborating closely with HMI, middleware, system software, hardware, and vehicle integration teams to deliver robust, high-performance automotive software.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional software development experience, preferably in Android Automotive OS (AAOS), automotive infotainment, or embedded Android platforms.

  • Strong hands-on experience with C++ and Java/Kotlin, with the ability to work across Android application, framework, and native system layers.

  • Strong understanding of Android Automotive OS (AAOS) architecture, including the Android framework, system services, native services, HAL, and hardware integration.

  • Solid experience with Vehicle HAL (VHAL), including vehicle property management, property configuration, read/write operations, subscriptions, event handling, and integration with vehicle signals.

  • Strong experience developing, debugging, and maintaining Android system services, including service lifecycle, inter-process communication (IPC), AIDL, Binder, permissions, and service-to-service communication.

  • Good understanding of the Android Automotive vehicle data flow, including interactions between vehicle hardware, VHAL, Car Service, and application/framework layers.

  • Strong C++ programming skills, including object-oriented design, memory management, multithreading, concurrency, and native debugging.

  • Experience with Android native development using the Android NDK, JNI, and CMake or Android.bp, as applicable.

  • Good understanding of Android build systems, including Soong, Android.bp, Make/Android.mk, and GNU Make, with the ability to configure, build, integrate, and troubleshoot Android platform components.

  • Experience working with the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), including source code navigation, platform customization, module integration, and building Android system images.

  • Strong understanding of embedded Linux fundamentals, including processes, threads, permissions, IPC, kernel logs, device nodes, and system-level debugging.

  • Experience with Android application and framework integration, including activities, services, intents, lifecycle management, and modern UI technologies where applicable.

  • Hands-on experience with Git, Gerrit, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and automated build and integration workflows.

  • Good knowledge of debugging and performance analysis using tools such as ADB, Logcat, dumpsys, bugreport, Perfetto, GDB, and native crash analysis tools.

  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, system integration, performance optimization, and troubleshooting across application, framework, native, and hardware abstraction layers.

  • Ability to analyze complex system issues, identify root causes, and collaborate with hardware, platform, application, and integration teams.

  • Experience with automated unit, integration, and system-level testing for embedded Android platforms.

Job responsibilities

  • Design and develop high-quality Android applications for automotive infotainment systems.
  • Develop and integrate applications using Android Automotive OS (AAOS) and the Android framework.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot issues across the application, Android framework, middleware, and vehicle environment.
  • Perform debugging, profiling, performance optimization, and memory/resource analysis on embedded Android platforms.
  • Participate in software design, code reviews, technical discussions, and architectural decisions.
  • Develop robust and maintainable software following automotive development processes and quality standards.
  • Support integration and validation activities in SIL/HIL and complete-vehicle environments.
  • Investigate complex issues identified during vehicle testing and collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify root causes.
  • Work with global engineering teams, OEM stakeholders, and suppliers to ensure successful delivery of infotainment features.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes, coding practices, and software quality.
