Description

The Senior Platform Engineer is a key builder of the central platform that all software engineering teams consume to accelerate delivery and reduce friction. They design, implement, and maintain the platform’s components – CI/CD templates, AI agent configurations, golden path tooling, reference patterns – and ship them as products: discoverable, self-service, instrumented for adoption, and tuned to the real workflows of the engineers using them.

You will be hands on in projects to provide technical guidance and validation to the team and be responsible for stakeholder management, building client relationships and identifying new opportunities.

This role supports a high-priority risk reduction programme for our client’s Platform, a complex technology estate built on AWS. Platform SMEs have already designed remediation plans and started putting them into effect. The DevOps engineer we’re looking for will rebuild deployment pipelines on AWS native tooling and make sure logging retention and encryption policies are implemented correctly across the platform. You will join and augment an existing squad.

Requirements

Essential experience

  • Proven history of AWS development and DevOps delivery in production
  • Hands-on design and build of pipelines with AWS CodeBuild and CodePipeline
  • Configuring CloudWatch Logs retention, encryption and access at scale
  • Infrastructure as code on AWS

Technologies and tools

  • CI/CD: AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, CodeArtifact (as applicable)
  • Logging and monitoring: Amazon CloudWatch Logs, CloudWatch metrics and alarms, log subscription filters
  • Security: AWS KMS, IAM, AWS Config rules for compliance checks
  • Infrastructure as code: AWS CloudFormation and/or AWS CDK, Terraform
  • Workloads: AWS Lambda, Amazon ECS
  • Scripting: Python, Bash, buildspec YAML

Nice to have

  • Pipeline security practices (supply-chain controls, secrets handling, signed artefacts)
  • Migrating live services between CI/CD systems
  • AWS certification (e.g. DevOps Engineer – Professional)

Job responsibilities

  • Re-implement the platform’s deployment pipelines using AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild and related services, following the agreed remediation plan
  • Build security and confidence into delivery: least-privilege pipeline roles, approval gates, artefact integrity, automated testing and safe rollback
  • Migrate services from existing pipelines to the new ones with no disruption to releases
  • Enforce encryption of logs at rest using AWS KMS, including key policies and rotation
  • Improve logging hygiene: consistent structure, removal of sensitive data from logs, and removal of noisy or orphaned log groups
  • Codify all changes as infrastructure as code so policies cannot drift
  • Document pipelines and logging standards and hand them over to the squad
