One of the key challenges facing the organizations Payments Solutions division was the high operational costs and inefficiencies associated with processing bill payments using traditional paper checks. This legacy approach required significant manual intervention, including check printing, shipping, and handling, which not only increased expenses but also slowed down payment workflows.

Recognizing the need for a more efficient and scalable solution, the organization sought to transition to electronic check processing by integrating its internal platforms with a tier-1 U.S. bank’s digital check processing API for digital payment collection. This shift aimed to eliminate the reliance on physical checks, streamline payment operations, and enhance the overall customer experience.

To achieve this ambitious goal, the organization partnered with GlobalLogic to design and deliver a robust, scalable, cloud-native solution that would seamlessly replace manual check handling while maintaining the integrity and continuity of its existing End-of-Day (EOD) payment workflows.

The organization  faced several challenges with its traditional paper check processing system, which was critical for managing bill payments:

  • High operational costs: Manual check printing, shipping, and handling incurred significant expenses.
  • Inefficiencies in payment workflows: The reliance on physical checks slowed down payment processing and reconciliation.
  • Risk of errors and delays: Manual processes increased the likelihood of errors, impacting data integrity and customer satisfaction.
  • Scalability limitations: The legacy system struggled to meet the growing demand for faster, more efficient digital payment solutions.

GlobalLogic partnered closely with the organization’s Payments team to architect, design, engineer, and test an end-to-end, event-driven digital workflow that replaced manual check handling. Delivered through an agile co-innovation model, the solution ensured reliable transaction processing, data synchronization, and reconciliation across the payment lifecycle. Using an agile co-innovation model and AI-assisted engineering practices, the team accelerated development while ensuring reliable transaction processing, data synchronization, and reconciliation across the payment lifecycle.

Key features of the solution included:

  • Cloud-native .NET API architecture: Built on AWS SQS and Kubernetes (EKS) for scalability, reliability, and high availability enabling full observability by the use of Grafana and CloudWatch.
  • Pre-submission validation layer: Minimized transaction failures by validating payment data before submission.
  • Automated retry mechanism with DLQ: Enhanced fault tolerance and ensured graceful failure handling.
  • Daily lockbox eligibility synchronization: Improved data integrity and streamlined reconciliation processes.
  • Seamless integration: Maintained business continuity by integrating with the organization’s  existing EOD workflows.

  • Scalability in volume: The architecture is built to handle significant increases in transaction volume efficiently, ensuring the system can scale as business demands grow.

  • Future use cases: The design supports faster implementation of B2B payment flows, such as those for Payment Platform, and accelerates the onboarding of new payment solutions, ensuring the organization- remains agile and competitive in a dynamic market.
