Description
A job family describes a general function (engineer, technical project manager, designer, etc). The description lists the high level expectations along with the primary skills necessary to perform those expectations. Job families are intended to be interchangeable so that someone working as a TPM for a given team should be able to perform as a TPM on any other team. There will be exceptions such as an SDE specializing in front end work may not be able to easily cover a more backend focused role.
Job levels reflect the experience and skill level of someone in a Job Family. Higher levels are able to solve challenges of larger scale and complexity. A job description can be built by combining the functions and skills from the job family with the expectations of the level guide. Team members are then held to the standard of the Job Family and Level assigned to them.
Requirements
A software development engineer, backend or full stack developer who builds tools, frameworks, and applications used by the OTT applications execution teams across all of digital products.
Experience creating and implementing test plans. Able to articulate edge and negative test cases for their own code.
Experience with Java, Node JS, Ruby, Docker, Grafana, GitHub, Jira, Appium, and AWS.
Able to write clear and understandable technical documentation.
Experience working with cloud infrastructure systems and infrastructure as code.
Experience with networking concepts including bandwidth, latency, tunneling, and IP addresses
Able to develop clear, efficient, and maintainable code.
Excellent communication skills
Knowledge of development pipeline and experience developing and maintaining a development pipeline.
Familiarity with the Quality Assurance process and ability to closely interact with Quality Assurance Engineers.
Job responsibilities
Level 2 SDE (Engineer)
1. Ability work independently with minimal supervision
2. Reaches out to appropriate team members and stakeholder to resolve ambiguity
3. Exercises good judgment by asking for help while also making the right decisions without input most of the time if help is not immediately available
4. Identifies in advance risks that could cause a expectations to not be met
5. Provides support and mentorship to junior team members. May lead 1-2 others engineers to complete work tasks.
Level 3 SDE (Senior Engineer)
Leads large initiatives and architects complex solutions
Reaches out to appropriate team members and stakeholders to resolve ambiguity or resolve the ambiguity themselves.
Exercises good judgment by making the right decisions and able to justify those decisions by presenting the pros/cons of considered alternatives.
Identifies and proactively provides options to move risks that would cause expectations not to be met
Provides support and mentorship to team members. May lead 4-6 other engineers to solve complex problems and deliver long running initiatives.
