Description

We are looking for a Senior C++ Software Engineer to join the development of a next-generation ophthalmic laser surgery platform. The product is a regulated Class IIb medical device that combines real-time laser control, advanced eye-tracking, imaging systems, and clinical workflow applications across multiple hardware and software subsystems.

The project follows IEC 62304 medical device software standards and utilizes an AI-augmented Software Development Lifecycle, where engineers actively leverage GitHub Copilot and agentic AI tooling to accelerate design, implementation, testing, and delivery while maintaining full ownership of the code and design decisions.

The team operates as a cross-functional feature team, delivering end-to-end functionality across Windows, Linux, and QNX-based subsystems.

We are looking for an engineer who combines strong C++ expertise with a systems-thinking mindset, can confidently work across multiple software layers, embraces AI-augmented development practices, and is comfortable operating within a regulated medical device environment.

Base salary: 2000 EUR and higher.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of commercial software development experience in C++
  • Proven experience delivering complex software products in regulated, embedded, or safety-critical environments
  • Strong knowledge of modern software engineering practices, including code review, unit testing, CI/CD, and automated quality gates
  • Ability to analyze large codebases and understand system-wide impacts of changes
  • Experience creating technical designs and documenting software solutions
  • Ability to explain and defend implementation decisions during technical reviews
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted software development workflows
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in medical devices, automotive, aerospace, industrial automation, or other safety-critical domains is highly desirable

Job responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain software features for a regulated medical device platform
  • Analyze existing architecture, data flows, and subsystem dependencies before implementation
  • Prepare technical design documentation and collaborate with architects and module owners
  • Implement features across multiple system layers, including GUI, backend, real-time control, and integration components
  • Utilize AI-assisted development tools to accelerate implementation while maintaining full engineering ownership
  • Write unit tests and follow Test-Driven Development practices
  • Ensure compliance with coding standards, static analysis, formatting, and quality requirements
  • Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, build automation, and software integration activities
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including architects, integration engineers, and testers
  • Support traceability, documentation, and regulatory compliance requirements according to IEC 62304 processes
  • Participate in feature demonstrations and integration activities on physical medical device platforms
