What We Do:
We develop and maintain the end-to-end technology that supports receiving, processing,
tracking, and shipping millions of third-party return packages across 1,100+ Kohl’s stores and
distribution centers. Our platform integrates with multiple carrier and logistics partners to ensure
packages are routed efficiently and within SLA. We handle massive data volumes and
high-throughput systems that require robust, scalable solutions.
Requirements
Java, Spring Boot, Vite/React (UI), TypeScript, Android Development, Relational Database
(MySQL), Kafka, Cloud Engineering (Docker/Kubernetes), Maven, CI/CD, Git, REST APIs
Bonus Skills:
Previous Retail or Logistics Experience, Production Monitoring (Dynatrace), TDD, Paired
Programming, GitLab, Real-time Data Processing, Carrier Integration Experience
Job responsibilities
What You’ll Do
● Operate as a full-stack owner, driving development from the database to the user
interface, with a strong commitment to quality and collaboration.
● Lead the development of high-quality, robust, observable, and measurable applications
using a user-centric approach and disciplined eXtreme Programming (XP) practices.
● Practice Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Pair Programming as core, daily
engineering functions to ensure code quality and shared ownership.
● Contribute across the stack, developing business logic with Java/Spring Boot on the
backend and building intuitive user interfaces with React on the frontend.
● Design and implement scalable solutions that handle millions of returns and massive
data volumes, utilizing Kafka to send return status updates to partners and enable
invoicing and reporting workflows.
● Integrate with multiple carrier and logistics partners to ensure packages are routed
efficiently across 1,100+ locations and within SLA.
● Participate in the entire Agile application lifecycle in collaboration with product managers,
store operations teams, logistics partners, and other engineers.
● Leverage critical thinking, experimentation, data, and industry best practices to
implement desired business outcomes.
● Facilitate team ceremonies and actively give and receive feedback that is empathetic,
actionable, and specific.
● Practice emergent architecture with sane defaults and build software that is easy to use
and easy to modify.
● Lead technical initiatives not only on the team but also across the department
